EV Chargers
EV chargers are devices used to charge electric vehicles, such as battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). These chargers are essential for providing power to EVs, allowing them to travel longer distances and reducing dependence on traditional fuel.
Level 1 Charger
-Residential
-
Level 1 Chargers are compatible with standard duplex receptacles. They average 1-3 miles of range per hour charged. This works when level 2 charging is not readily available, but is not ideal for long-term driving.
Level 2 Chargers
-
Level 2 Chargers are the recommended option for residential EV charging. They operate on a dedicated circuit, which allows for an average of 25-45 mph charged. Level 2 chargers are connected via Nema 14-50 receptacles or a hardwire connection, 20-60 amp breakers, 6-gauge copper wire, conduit for physical protection, and a knife switch to disconnect. Streib company now uses 60 amp 240-volt rated knife switches in lieu of a pull out disconnect to minimize the potential for damage.
Typical brands include:
Tesla Wall Connect, JuiceBox, Grizzl-e, Wall Box, and Charge Point.
